Review of FrolicMe.Com

I recently received an email from Anna, the founder of FrolicMe.com asking if I’d be interested in reviewing her site. I was happy to do so. She provided me with one-month free access so I could peruse the material, and she agreed to tweet a link of my review to her followers. I say all of this just to clarify that this is not a paid review. No quid pro quos beyond what I just laid out.

So, Frolic Me is a subscription-based adult site with a number of very professional and sexy short films and photosets as well as a number of “stories” written by various recognizable erotica authors. I’ll explain why I put “stories” in quotes in a moment.

This is “couples” porn or “women’s” porn. (BTW, I don’t mean porn in a pejorative sense. I consider myself a “porn author.” Call it erotica if you prefer. Po-ta-to, po-tah-to)

Nothing extreme or disrespectful. An ideal, non-threatening introduction. No extreme choking or gagging or slapping. Pretty much just straight sex, though there is a little light bondage and a threesome or two in the mix as well.

The women are very, very attractive. Wholesome, girl-next-door, models. Very few tattoos or piercings. The men are a bit of a mixed bag, I have to say, but they too are non-threatening. Normal bodies, normal cocks. Fit, but not as attractive as the women. This is either a feature or a bug depending on your interests.

The quality of the images and video is superb. Beautifully shot, well-lit, nicely paced. Very, very professional and technically proficient.

All of those things, btw, are both the strengths and weaknesses of the site. It is nice that this site exists, but I have to admit, I’ve always been skeptical of “couples” or “women’s” porn, or at least of the label. I think what we have here is really much more “introductory” porn, a safe way of experimenting with porn in a relationship. The problem is, I think, most people, women and couples included, are more kinky than the site suggests (think of 50 Shades, for instance), and there is a certain lack of kink here. (Though Anna tells me they will add more variety in the future). Again, this is either a bug or a feature depending on what you’re looking for.

That said, it is definitely appealing to see an erotic site that is respectfully toward women. I want to stress that point again. If you’re a man who wants to introduce his wife to porn, this is a great place to start, and if you’re a woman who wants to admit her interest in erotica to her man, this is also a safe way to do so with little risk of being branded damaged, or a pervert, or whatever sexually uptight people say about those of us who like porn.

My only real qualm is the “stories.” They aren’t stories. There are no characters, no plot, no emotion, no real dialogue. The “stories” are just competently written descriptions of a given sexual encounter. Yes, it is sexy to have these descriptions matched up to the lovely photo sets on the site, but my own preference for erotica is something that actually explains and provides meaning to the sex. Characters with back-stories and motivations. It doesn’t need to be Tolstoy, and I get that leaving it really open, with no names or details, sort of invites readers to immerse themselves in the situation, but if I have to provide the meaning myself, then what is the point of the words?

Maybe that is just my conceit as an author. Maybe people really do just want descriptions of what they are seeing… though as a colleague of mine once noted, “there are only so many ways to insert Tab A into Slot B, so the key is to make people care about the owners of the parts.” That said, the stories are very, well-written, which is not surprising given the quality of the authors (most of whom are reasonable well-know erotica authors).

Anyway, for people who are looking to add a little spice to their relationships by introducing some porn, this is a great starting place. Sexy models, lovely photography, and some well-written descriptions of sexual encounters. Check it out. Frolic Me.
